What Is IELTS(International English Language Testing System)?

The essential exam for entry to universities in the United States. Academic language. IELTS is an internationally accredited English language test co-sponsored by Cambridge ESOL, the British Council, and IDP Australia, and over one million candidates take the test every year for higher education application and immigration to English spoken countries such as the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, etc.

Two Types of IELTS

Nearly everyone does the test on a computer, although a paper test is available in locations without access to the internet.

Band 6Competent UserHas generally effective command of the language despite some inaccuracies, inappropriacies and misunderstandings. Can use and understand fairly complex language, particularly in familiar situations.
Band 5Modest UserHas partial command of the language, coping with overall meaning in most situations, though is likely to make many mistakes. Should be able to handle basic communication in own fields.
Band 4Limited UserBasic competence is limited to familiar situations. Have frequent problems in understanding and expression. Is not able to use complex language.
Band 3Extremely Limited UserConveys and understands only general meaning in very familiar situations. Frequent breakdowns in communication occur.
Band 2Intermittent UserNo real communi-cation is possible except for the most basic information using isolated words or short formulae in familiar situations and to meet immediate needs. Has great difficulty in understanding spoken and written English.
Band 1Non UserEssentially has no ability to use the language beyond possibly a few isolated words.
Band 0 Did not attempt the test: No assessable information provided.
